boxing, heavyweight | Fury promoter doubts Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk

On paper, the path is set for a major unification bout in heavyweight boxing, but only WBC world champion Tyson Fury’s fight against Dillian Whyte has been officially confirmed. However, the promoter of the “Gypsy King” does not yet believe that Anthony Joshua will get into the ring for a rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.

Eddie Hearn is a busy man these days. The promoter of ex-world champion Anthony Joshua and Fury challenger Dillian Whyte not only has to negotiate the final details for Whyte’s duel against Fury, but also to arrange Joshua’s rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.

However, Fury promoter Frank Warren doubts that this is really Hearn’s plan. He doesn’t believe that Joshua really wants to get in the ring against Usyk for the second time. “He [Hearn] keeps talking about Tyson not wanting to fight Usyk. I don’t think Joshua wants that. I don’t think he does [Joshua] would like to have a rematch,” Warren told talkSPORT radio.

The background to Warren’s statements is Fury’s mega-fight against Usyk, which would have been about all titles. The Fury camp claim Joshua dropped the fight. The Joshua camp say Fury torpedoed the plan because he doesn’t want to fight Usyk next. Which camp is telling the truth can only be speculated.

Hearn warns Tyson Fury about Dillian Whyte

Far more than just speculation is Tyson Fury’s upcoming fight against Dillian Whyte. Apart from the date and the venue, all the details have already been negotiated.

There is no question that the WBC world champion will step into the ring as a huge favorite. If Eddie Hearn has his way, Fury shouldn’t be too sure of himself.

“On a good night, Dillian can beat any heavyweight. He can land incredible body shots and has a left hook that can put your lights out. Fury is the favorite but Dillian Whyte is an underdog with chances. A lot will depend on Tyson’s hunger. He always acts very hungry on Instagram, but the question is how badly does he want it when it comes to everything?” Hearn said.
