biathlon | Biathlete Kühn returns

Biathlete Johannes Kühn returns to the World Cup just a week after his positive corona test.

As the German Ski Association (DSV) announced, the 30-year-old is part of the squad for the Olympic dress rehearsal from Thursday in Antholz, Italy. The Bavarian Kühn, who was able to win the only win of the skiers so far this season in December, tested positive for Corona in Ruhpolding the week before. He then had to go into quarantine immediately and missed the home races.

Franziska Preuss is not in Antholz. The overall World Cup third place from the previous season is not fully ready again after her corona infection at the end of December and a foot injury. “We will decide from day to day what the load options are for you. Of course we are positive that everything will still work out in time,” said Bernd Eisenbichler, the sports director responsible for biathlon at DSV: “Obviously, the starting position is not optimal. “

Lesser and Nawrath skip World Cup

In general, two weeks before the Winter Games in Beijing (February 4th to 20th), the ski hunters rely on individual solutions. Roman Rees, Denise Herrmann and Vanessa Voigt will only be used in the mass start and will otherwise concentrate on training. Erik Lesser and Philipp Nawrath skip the World Cup in South Tyrol because of the training management.

In return, athletes from the second row like Hanna Kebinger, Sophia Schneider, Marion Wiesensarter and Justus Strelow get the chance to present themselves in the World Cup.

After the races in Italy, the team will continue to train in Antholz and set off for Beijing with the nominated athletes on January 31st.
