Former biathlon world champion Benedikt Doll doesn’t want to take too seriously his mass start victory in Antholz in preparation for the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
“My goals haven’t changed. As a relay, we always go for the podium. In the individual races, I also feel like fighting for the podium. But it’s just not a gift. Over there, everything starts again from scratch,” he said 31-year-olds in a digital media round.
“I can travel over a little more relaxed – I know I’m good at shooting and walking. But I also have to put it back together over there,” Doll added.
The veteran has recently achieved decent results in Antholz and at the home game in Ruhpolding. “Everything is going according to plan. I recovered for a few days from the last World Cups. The next few weeks in Beijing will be long,” said Doll. It is particularly important to him to find his running form immediately at the Olympics in China.
“In terms of running, I want to avoid needing another race to get in. At the Olympics, it has to work out right away.”
He can well imagine working in the mixed relay, with which the biathlon competitions in Beijing will start on February 5th.
