Niklas Süle has been making the headlines in the Bundesliga press since the beginning of the week. After his upcoming move from FC Bayern to BVB was announced, the national player was omnipresent in the reporting. Now the Bayern star is catching up with a well-known topic: Süle is said to be struggling with weight problems again.
As the “kicker” revealed, the 26-year-old returned from the Christmas vacation with more than four kilograms too much. According to the specialist magazine, a weight limit of 100 kilograms had been set for Süle, who measures 1.95 meters. When training resumed in January, the central defender is said to have weighed 104 kilos.
By no means the first time that the defender has struggled with weight problems. Jupp Heynckes, who coached Süle for almost nine months in his first year at Bayern, had repeatedly praised the defensive giant for his outstanding footballing qualities, but urged him to take a more professional approach to his own fitness.
Süle has been German champion four times with FC Bayern
As the media report goes on to say, the Bayern star is quite relaxed about his weight fluctuations. He is said to have emphasized “in a small circle” in Munich that he was not considering any particular change in his lifestyle. After all, he has made it to the 37-time international with a “relative professionalism”.
At FC Bayern, Süle has also been an integral part of the successful squad for four and a half years, which has celebrated four German championships, two DFB Cup wins and a Champions League title.
How angry Süle’s head coach at FC Bayern, Julian Nagelsmann, was about his defender’s supposed overweight has not been reported.
At least the extra kilos at the start of the year have not affected his game shares. Since the start of the second half of the season, Süle has played in all Bayern Munich Bundesliga games.
Next summer, the native of Frankfurt will move to Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer after five years at Bayern Munich.
