Bayer newcomer Sardar Azmoun misses the top game against BVB

Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen will not be able to fall back on the Iranian new signing Sardar Azmoun, who was signed by Zenit St. Petersburg in the winter transfer window, in the top game at Borussia Dortmund on Sunday (3:30 p.m.).

He doesn’t yet have the physical fitness to be used immediately.

He is suffering from a slight ligament injury and still has to recover from a corona disease in the hotel in Dubai, according to Bayer coach Gerardo Seoane.

“It has been medically tested and will take a while,” said the Swiss on Friday, “but we have another alternative with him in the offensive department. He will definitely help us this season.”

The Swiss football coach said of the absence of BVB striker Erling Haaland: “It’s certainly not a disadvantage, he’s a player who always knows where the goal is.”

Bayer wants to close the gap to Dortmund in the long term, said the coach: “We also know that there is still a long way to go and that we have to improve on many points.”

In the first leg Dortmund had retained the upper hand in a dramatic game after falling behind three times 4:3. “Dortmund are much more aggressive in counter-pressing than at the beginning of the season. I see a similar development in both teams,” said the Bayer coach.
