Germany’s number one Alexander Zverev expects an increasing number of corona cases among tennis professionals at the Australian Open.
“We will not be tested. If we were tested, there would probably be more positives than now,” said the Olympic champion on Wednesday. He believes that “certainly some” players are already infected.
Frenchman Ugo Humbert had previously announced that he had tested positive after losing in the first round of the Grand Slam tournament. He is therefore staying in Melbourne for another week and is isolated.
“This year there will be a lot more cases in Australia than last year, it’s as simple as that,” said Zverev: “We can go outside to eat, we can do what we want, so I think it’s quite normal that more people will get COVID.”
He reduces his stays in public to prevent infection.
