Apparently, bosses doubt the managerial qualities of the squad

FC Bayern has already presented the new showpiece for the offensive in Sadio Mané. But there is a big gap on the defensive after the free transfers from David Alaba and Niklas Süle in the last twelve months. The Munich bosses are said to have their doubts that the problem can be solved internally – despite the millions invested in recent years.

Lucas Hernández was signed in 2019 for the Bundesliga record sum of 80 million euros, Dayot Upamecano came to Munich a year ago for around half of the amount. However, FC Bayern still does not have a new defense chief. The squad planners around sports director Hasan Salihamidzic are said to have come to this conclusion, according to “kicker”.

Accordingly, the role of leader in central defense is not expected of any of the current players in the squad. This applies not only to Lucas Hernández and Dayot Upamecano, but also to Benjamin Pavard.

The Frenchman, who came from Stuttgart for 35 million euros in 2018, had actually figured out a chance to finally switch from the right-back to the middle and thus take over the squad place from Niklas Süle, who had moved to Dortmund. A year earlier, FC Bayern had already lost David Alaba as a defensive leader. The Austrian promptly won the national league and the Champions League in his debut season at Real Madrid.

Pavard can supposedly imagine saying goodbye to FC Bayern

The center has always been considered Pavard’s desired position, taking the lead is one of the world champion’s ambitions anyway. And with a new right-back already signed in Noussair Mazraoui, the path to the middle seemed clear.

In the meantime, Pavard, who is still under contract with FC Bayern until 2024, should also imagine a change according to “kicker” information in order to be able to take on that leadership role at another top European club. Speculations that the right-footed player could actually break up his tents on the Isar this summer have recently increased due to the emerging rumors about Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt.

According to “Sky”, FC Bayern is currently working on signing the Dutchman. Allegedly, de Ligt also wants to move to Munich, so far “only” the negotiations with Juve are in the way. There is talk of a possible transfer fee of 60 to 80 million euros.
