Alpine skiing | Downhill racer Johnson fails for the Olympics

American skier Breezy Johnson has canceled her participation in the Winter Olympics in Beijing (February 4 to 20). The 26-year-old, one of the favorites for downhill gold, injured her knee in a training fall in Cortina.

She suffered a cartilage injury, “I could have tried, but that wouldn’t have been wise, I would do more damage and I wouldn’t be in the best shape,” said Johnson. The American finished second in downhills three times this winter.

Along with Italy’s Sofia Goggia, Johnson was one of the closest medalists. Goggia also injured his knee in Cortina and is still worried about his participation in the Olympics.
