Former BVB striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is leaving the Africa Cup after the fuss about his health and is returning to Arsenal.
“We made the wise decision to send him back to his club to be examined there,” Gabon coach Patrice Neveu said in Cameroon on Monday.
The former Dortmund player had tested positive for the corona virus on January 6th, and heart problems were then found in the 32-year-old at the Africa Cup before the second group game.
Neveu did without his star in the following 1-1 draw against Ghana, but then spoke of it as a pure precaution.
“We followed the protocol. It is very clear that Pierre-Emerick does not have a heart problem. It is possible that the disease has left its mark,” said Neveu.
Any player who has tested negative after a positive corona test must undergo a medical examination before being allowed to play again.
With four points from two games, Gabon still has a good chance of reaching the round of 16. The last group opponent is Morocco on Tuesday.
