Chelsea are up for sale following the resignation of Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. The forthcoming change of ownership has an impact on personnel planning at Chelsea. For the three German internationals Kai Havertz, Antonio Rüdiger and Timo Werner, the sporting perspective is likely to be different.
The Russian war of aggression in Ukraine also has consequences in sport. Roman Abramovich announced that he would be giving up Chelsea after almost 20 years.
“For me it was never about business or money, but about the pure passion for football and the club,” the oligarch justified his decision and also announced: “In addition, I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation in all net proceeds from the sale will flow to it. The foundation will benefit all victims of the war in Ukraine.”
According to the “kicker”, some analysts believe that Abramovich would do well to sell Chelsea “for half of the approximately 3.5 billion euros that he actually wants to generate”. Money for large transfers and expensive player salaries could therefore become a problem for the English first division club in the future.
With Kai Havertz, Antonio Rüdiger and Timo Werner, three German internationals are also employed in London. While Rüdiger is currently playing poker with those responsible for an extension of his expiring contract, Havertz and Werner are tied to the reigning Champions League winner until 2025.
Is Werner threatened with Chelsea?
The attacking duo plays different roles in the Blues. Havertz is one of the permanent staff under coach Thomas Tuchel. Only on Saturday did the midfielder score twice in the league game against FC Burnley (4-0).
Werner, on the other hand, is mostly only used as a joker at Chelsea. However, according to the “kicker”, the 26-year-old should earn a “lush salary”. It could therefore happen that Chelsea “may no longer want to afford the attacker”.
However, concrete plans should only start after Abramovich’s sale.
