3rd league: 1. FC Magdeburg wins top game

Third division leaders 1. FC Magdeburg have extended their winning streak to ten games without a defeat and with another win in the top game they have further widened the gap to pursuers 1. FC Saarbrücken. FCM celebrated a hard-fought 2-1 (1-1) win against the Saarlanders on matchday 24.

Magdeburg’s top scorer Baris Atik (13th) was responsible for the 1-0 with his twelfth goal of the season, but Julian Günther-Schmidt (32nd) was able to equalize for Saarbrücken in the first half. The lightning-fast Sirlord Conteh (47th) shot the hosts back into the lead and victory. However, the visitors were close to equalizing in the closing stages.

With 54 points, Magdeburg, the winner of the 1974 European Cup, clearly leads the rankings. Second is 1. FC Kaiserslautern (42), who won the home game against Hallesche FC 1-0 (1-0). FCS is third with 40 points.

The four-time German soccer champion from Kaiserslautern was also able to continue his winning streak. Mike Wunderlich (38th) scored the redeeming goal for the Palatinate, who are unbeaten in nine games, against HFC.

Borussia Dortmund’s second team gambled away a 2-0 lead against VfL Osnabrück, who had been relegated to the second division, with goals from Steffen Tigges (35′) and the exceptionally talented 17-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko (61′). In the end it was 2:2 (1:0). Ba-Muaka Simakala (73′, penalty kick/90’+2) netted twice for the North Germans.

MSV Duisburg scores in the relegation battle

The former Bundesliga club MSV Duisburg was able to score important points in the relegation battle by beating SV Wehen Wiesbaden 1-0 (0-0). Aziz Bouhaddouz (62nd) with the support of Sascha Mockenhaupt scored for the Meidericher. The zebras left the relegation zone with the threesome.
