Winter newcomer Sven Michel wants to become the crowd favorite at Bundesliga club Union Berlin. “I’ll work my ass off for the club and I hope I get into the hearts of the fans,” said the attacker at a media round on Tuesday: “But I want to earn it.”
After his short assignment away at FC Augsburg (0:2), Michel is looking forward to his home debut at the Alte Försterei. “The anticipation is huge,” said the 31-year-old with a view to the duel on Sunday (3:30 p.m. / DAZN) against second-placed Borussia Dortmund.
However, Michel does not believe that BVB was hurt because of the 2: 5 swatter against Bayer Leverkusen: “We shouldn’t let that blind us. Borussia Dortmund is a bomb team, so violence is coming at us.”
Michel can understand the comparisons with Max Kruse, who moved to VfL Wolfsburg, even if he doesn’t like them. The hype about it is normal, “there was also a little hype in Paderborn,” he said, referring to his 14 goals this season and seven assists for the second division.
He also wants to bring his qualities to the iron team. He was a “very robust player, I have good ways to run deep and can fix balls well,” Michel listed: “Union and I – that can work well.”
