1. FC Nuremberg suffered a severe setback in the promotion race to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the home game against SC Paderborn, the club lost 2-1 (0-2) and missed out on third place in the table.

With his 14th goal of the season, striker Sven Michel gave the SCP the lead in the 41st minute. He was successful with a wonderful lob after SCP captain Ron Schallenberg served Michel with a pass from the bottom in an exemplary manner.

Just three minutes later, Felix Platte headed the ball to make it 2-0 for Paderborn, who used their few chances very efficiently. Michel did the preliminary work. The Norwegian Mats Möller Daehli (61st) headed the goal for the home side.

With 30 points, Nuremberg slipped down to seventh place in the table. The East Westphalians also passed FCN with 30 points and are now sixth.

In the first game of the new year, Nuremberg needed a quarter of an hour to get their first big chance. However, Manuel Schäffler’s header after a cross from Enrico Valentini (15th) narrowly missed the SCP goal.

The FCN now took over more and more the command, but without being able to create clear goal chances. The guests cleverly made the rooms narrow and repeatedly disturbed the passing game of the former German record champions.

On the offensive, Paderborn remained harmless for a long time, but then set the decisive needle pricks with the double strike shortly before the half-time break.
