Anthony Modeste enjoys absolute cult status at 1. FC Köln. But the top scorer could soon leave the Bundesliga soccer team for the second time.
Modeste scored a strong 23 competitive goals last season and was therefore instrumental in qualifying for the Conference League. In addition, the Frenchman has long been an absolute fan favorite at 1. FC Köln. Nevertheless, the 34-year-old is busy saying goodbye.
“I’m always honest and have a clear line. If something comes up, I have to talk to the club about it. But I don’t think that will be a problem because I think that the top earners will have to go slowly,” said the center forward “picture” quoted. Sports director Christian Keller had recently criticized the salary structures in the club.
Modeste is only tied to 1. FC Köln until 2023. “I’m 34 years old. If I get the chance to get another contract somewhere for two or three years, I’ll have to talk to the club,” said the clipper.
Baumgart believes Modeste will remain at 1. FC Köln
FC coach Steffen Baumgart had recently been optimistic that Modeste and midfielder Elyes Skhiri would stay in the cathedral city beyond the summer. “But I firmly assume that both will start the season with us,” said the Cologne head coach to “Sky”.
Baumgart continues: “There is only speculation from outside by people who then make their forecasts. Nobody from the squad we have here is about to jump, but that doesn’t mean that something can’t happen. As a coach I want to I’d like to have both players with me, of course.”
He does not have the feeling that “their thoughts are elsewhere”. “They are clearly here and they work accordingly. If an offer comes along at some point, then we will sit down, talk openly about it and see what comes of it,” says Baumgart.
